Unschooling Damian 2 years 5 months

DAMIAN

Damian has had very specific interests since very little. Now that he is very able to communicate they have just being reinforced.

Of course he likes cars and running and slides like every other kid but it is very evident to all of those that are close to him his interest for Basketball. He has now a mini ball that he shoots all day long. He is good at it. When he doesn't make it he keeps trying saying "ya casi" (almost) and when he gets it in he says "lo hicimos!"  (we did it) hahaah He is such a joy. Even in his imagination he has a team. He went to his first soccer class yesterday. The Basketball classes will start in a month.

Damian also has shown interest in music. He loves listening to music and music shows (dancing and singing), He sort of likes to dance and sort of likes to sing. I believe he is more interested in playing music. When he hears classical music he directs it and plays "air piano" (that is his favorite instrument). I can't wait until we can get a mentor for him.

Another interest has been cooking. It is one that he even prays about. If we have not cooked with him for a while he prays that he can "cocinar con papi, con mami" (cook with mommy, with daddy). So we make it a point to do that on the weekends. We will start a garden as soon as it gets warm enough and start cooking food out of our own garden.

Besides loving to read and looking for the hidden pictures within the picture. He enjoys counting stuff. His English skills are hilarious. Now he tells us how to say things in English and Spanish and requests his books in the language he wants.

I realize Damian is a visual learner. He has to watch people do it first a few times then he takes off and masters whatever he watched. I am excited to see him develop into the man he came here to be.

OLIVIA

Olive is very interested in grabbing stuff. She started crawling a little before she turned 10 months which coincidentally was when she stop wearing her braces during the day. She is already pulling herself up in furniture and trying to walk when you hold her up. Ay ay ay I can't imagine having TWO walkers!!! haha

She has always being very talkative but now she copies what you say bababa mamama papa babaab and even how you laugh. She claps on her own or if I clap or say "bravo."

Unlike, Damian she is a doer. Seems like that is how she learns. She crawls all over the place and plays alone well. She loves when we read to her and she sings along when we sing to her. She laughs and smiles a lot but I guess that is all babies.

What a blessing is to be a mom!
